Aug./Sept. 2016: Students began grassroots campaign to Rename Ramsey at Open House and in Dare 2 Be Real (Anti-racist Student Leadership Group)
Nov. 2016: Exploration of Renaming Ramsey begins during Indigenous People's Celebratory Assembly.
Dec. 2016:Community Voices Event: Should We Rename Ramsey? with 125 attendees. Site Council meeting with unanimous vote to continue to explore renaming. Snow Shoveling Student-initiated Fundraiser over Winter Break.
Jan. 2017: Students and Ramsey Middle School community submit new name idea by Jan 17th. Panel to narrow down and vet top ideas convenes Jan 27th.
Feb. 2017:Presentation of top five names to the student body during an assembly Feb 10th to see what students prefer. Community Voices "What Should Be the Name of our School?" event Feb. 28th at 6:30pm (Dinner at 6pm) to see which name suggestions the community prefers . On Feb 26th, George and the Dragon pub generously gave all proceeds from brunch to our campaign. 16 students waited tables and we earned over $5,000!
March 2017: Site Council voted 10-1 to move forward in replacing our school name with one of the following new names, in ranked order: #1 Justice Alan Page, #2 Dr. Martha Ripley and #3 Bde Ota. On March 16th, 15% of sales at prAna on 50th and France will go to the Rename Campaign. On March 20th, Tangletown Neighborhood Board approved unanimously $5,000 towards cost for a new sign for our school.
April 2017: Present to the Superintendent Graff our top 3 choices put forward by the Site Council. He can approve any or all of our recommendations or he can say 'no' to the renaming all together. We can still present our Renaming to the School Board even if the superintendent rejects us, but having his approval is definitely desired.
May 2017: Present to the School Board at their meeting our 3 top choices. The School Board would consider the resolution for a month and vote during their June meeting.
June 2017: School Board final vote on the Renaming!
July 2017: New name goes into effect, if approved.
August 2017: Back-to-school Open House celebration and unveiling of new sign!
